Now the power comes on just fine, but no picture. They worked ok for the first couple months. I purchased two boxes using my government coupons. No anything for that matter. There were times when the box would shut down for no apperant reason only to magically come back on by it's self. After that it would scroll through all the channels you have programed in and land on which ever one you didn't want. DO NOT buy this box, and if you ask me the whole DTV thing is a big scam. Save your money and get cable or satillite.
Seems like they knew this box would not get the job done. bought this box on 7/1/2008. The station in question is only 5.9 mi. Could'nt have known then that on 2/17/2009 that I still would not be able to catch all station. They came out with an upgrade DTA800B1 a little while after and it does pick up all available signals. from me with 2 other antennas in the same vicinity. RCA also will not back this item with a recall when i believe they know it does'nt work right.
This thing hasn't worked right since I bought it. Once you turn it off, it won't turn back on unless you un-plug & re-plug it back in. Ya, I bought it a while before the conversion date & tossed the box & reciept.and after you don't really get any stations you can go buy a USELESS digital antenna that dosen't even get 1 more station then my old rabbit ears.
The one new TV in our house with a built-in digital receiver receives these stations all the time with the same antenna, so the problem has to be the box: Three TVs in our house use these boxes, and they're all lousy. This converter box is LOUSY. When we switch to analog signal, usign the same antenna, reception is fine. Reception goes in and out --and when it's out, it's completely gone -- some days I can tune the PBS station in our area, some days not. Some days I get Fox, some days not. Additionally, if you want to record a show, you have to MANUALLY change the channel on the converter box - no way to pre-program channel changes - so if you're going out of town, you can record one channel. Had I known when I bought these how cheaply made they are, I'd have considered paying a little more for a better converter.
easy to set up. doesn't have a separate zoom/crop/wide button like insignia, or picture freeze like the magnavox with the crappy remote. got all channels with rabbit ears, building my own UHF antenna for more channels and better signal. easy set up. this remote is simple, easy to use, but. mine came a defective remote.
